DCU MERCY BEAT UL IN NATIONAL CUP 72-63
A fantastic game was to be seen in DCU Sports Complex and despite the severe weather conditions a large crowd attended. The opening score came from U.L's Michelle Fahy, but Mercy answered back with three three-pointers in a row! However it was basket for basket and at the end of the first quarter saw U.L with a one point lead. Shauna O'Connor opened the second with an insane three-point shot, but U.L came back strong and finished the half with a nine point lead. Mark Ingle's half time talk motivated the girls to come back out fighting with Mercy spirit. At the beginning of the third U.L couldn't buy a basket and resulted in a 22-4 run for Mercy. DCU Mercy suddenly found themselves back in the fight thanks to Suzanne Maguire's immense shot clock buzzer-beater! Mark Ingle's change of defense resulted in Natalie Taylor ending the third with only two points after having fifteen in the first half. U.L attempted to regain a lead in the fourth but it was basket for basket until the final buzzer. The games top scorer was U.L's Natalie Taylor with 24 points but DCU's Suzanne Maguire wasn't far behind with an outstanding 21 points on the day, backed up by good performances from Lisa Palmer, Lindsay Peat and Shauna O'Connor. The game finished 72-63 with DCU Mercy progressing to the semi-final of the National Cup where they will play local rivals Killester Basketball Club!
