A week after beating Team Montonette Glanmire in the National Cup, DCU Mercy once again met them to play in their second game of the regular league season. Team Montonette Glanmire were hoping to show that they were better than their performance in the cup game showed. However, DCU Mercy were equally out to prove that they were the well deserved Champions.
It started out well for Glanmire, with an opening 3 pointer from Claire Rockall. But DCU went the other end to reply in kind, however, they failed to finish. Glanmire continued to shoot well with poor finishin from DCU. The fantastic shooting display by Claire Rockall saw Glanmire speed into an early lead. However, the DCU team were not giving up. The quarter ended with Glanmire in the lead by 10. DCU came out in the 2nd quarter ready to prove themselves. Great defence and superb rebounding by Liza Palmer and MVP of the cup win, Suzanne Maguire showed that DCU were not going to be ousted. The half time score was a level game with each team having 28 points.
With the game up for grabs, DCU came out fighting in the 3rd quarter with fabulous performances by all players and spectacular defence DCU scored 21 points to Glanmire's 10. DCU in the lead going into the 4th needed to keep up the tempo.
With the new DJ proving himself with his background NBA style music and with the chants of their supporters DCU didn't take their foot off the pedal. They continued strongly offensively with huge 3 pointers from both Shauna O'Connor and Sarah Woods. With Captain Lindsay Peat in foul trouble, Sarah McGrath proved her worth and continued calling strong offensive plays. Fine performances from Christina Newton and Ailish McLoughlin were too much for Glanmire and DCU ended the game with a 65 to 47 finish.
